Andrew is one of the four Civil Defence Emergency Management (CDEM) officers working in the Regional Emergency Management Office and has been with the team since November 2005. One of his responsibilities is as the Manager of the Emergency Management Training Centre. |

Andrew’s primary areas of teaching is in EMTCs Personal Preparedness and Emergency Management courses. |
| CDEM Experience: |
As with the other EMTC trainers Andrew is an emergency management practitioner. His involvement in CDEM goes back to when his Granddad was a Civil Defence Officer, in Wanganui, in the late 70’s – early 80’s when he use to join his Granddad on exercises and help push the Civil Defence Ford Escort van when it got stuck in the paddock at home (no flash 4x4s back then!). Andrew’s previous career in the Army saw him being, at varying times the Defence Liaison Officer to the local CDEM organisations in Wanganui, Waiouru and Christchurch. While in Waiouru Andrew was involved in the local council’s development of the Mt Ruapehu lahar response plan. Prior to leaving the Army to commence his current job Andrew was the liaison officer to the Canterbury regional CDEM office. During his time with the Army, Andrew completed three overseas operational deployments which involved working in multi national command posts where responses and support to various activities was planned and coordinated. Upon commencing his current job, and as the Manager of EMTC, Andrew completed the various courses, provided by EMTC, as a student so as to gain a better understanding of the content of the various courses. During an activation of the Groups Emergency Coordination Centre Andrew normally takes on the role as one of the Duty Officers. |
| Interests/Hobbies: |
Out of work time Andrew enjoys spending time with his family and being involved with his children’s school (currently on the Board of Trustees) and sports teams. Andrew’s hobbies include fishing (when he catches more and bigger fish than his boys!!), the family boat, his shed and woodworking/DIY. |
