About James

Current Occupation:

James currently manages a restaurant and bar.

Courses taught:

James’s main area of teaching is in Emergency Preparedness which includes Operational structure, Welfare, Communicatioins and the Coordinated Incident Management System.

James is also the deputy course Coordinator for selected aspects of the Emergency Preparedness programme.  This responsibility invovles the creation, modification and teaching of the Emergency Preparedness course.

CDEM Experience:

Like all EMTC trainers James is an emergency management practitioner. His involvement in CDEM began in 1998 as a volunteer  team member  for the Hagley / Ferrymead ward in Christchurch.  He became the Welfare Manager for that ward after one year and  for the past five years has been the Area Coordinator for the ward which gives him the responsibillity of coordinating the response during an emergency for up to 30,000 people.

In 2003 James was appointed as a training team member for  EMTC and one year later became module supervisor for three of the modules on the Emergency Preparedness course.

James has also been an Education officer for Canterbury, which involved  visiting Primary schools around the region teaching CDEM, in particular home preparedness and earthquake drills.

Interests/Hobbies:

While work and his commitment to EMTC keeps him busy, James enjoys playing sports and other forms of recreation.
