Current Occupation:

James is the Canterbury CDEM Group Training Coordinator and has the role of introducing new training and qualifications to the CDEM Group, particularly those to do with Emergency Operation/Coordination Centre training. James acts as the EMTC Emergency Management Programme Coordinator.

Courses taught:

James’s main area of teaching is in EMTCs Emergency Management courses. James is also a qualified rescue instructor with specialist knowledge in Rope/High Angle and Confined Space rescue training.

CDEM Experience:

Like all EMTC trainers James is an emergency management practitioner. His involvement in CDEM began in the late 1990s as a volunteer rescue team member in a Christchurch Suburban rescue team. He quickly became a qualified rescue instructor and regularly taught various rescue subjects and first aid until October 2004.

In October 2004 James was appointed as the Group Training Coordinator with the role of developing the CDEM Groups Emergency Management Programme.

James has spent time learning at the Justice Institute of British Columbia in Canada and has since arranged to use their material in Canterbury.

During activation of the Groups Emergency Coordination Centre James normally takes on the role as one of the Operations Managers.

James is still a current CDEM volunteer as the Team Leader of the Rescue and Technical Support (RATS) team or NZ-RT1.

Interests/Hobbies:

Out of work time James enjoys being with his family and watching his children grow up.

James’s hobbies include SCUBA diving, wood work / furniture making, gardening and Rope Rescue.
